LIFE@TRINITY

Life at Trinity is given order through three words: Worship, Connect, and Serve. God has gifted each of us differently and equipped us with different passions and preferences. With the choices at Trinity we ask that you seek to Worship with the church, Connect with a small group, and Serve in a way God has gifted you once a week. To help make that simpler we place the things we do under the word that best fits that group or activity. Start by choosing one thing from each area.

For the Journey – December 2024

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

What a blessed time of year to remember and declare God’s goodness to us. When we are truly thankful for all God has done, we can be joyful in all He is doing. God is at work and we rejoice in all of His activity among and around us. Prepare yourselves this season to celebrate Jesus, God’s greatest gift. Take notice and advantage of the many gatherings to do so at Trinity Baptist Church.

On December 15th, we will be gathering in our times of worship to nominate potential deacons to serve at TBC. Our New Deacon Selection Task Force is ready to complete their task of securing additional deacons. Each church member will have the opportunity to nominate up to three men to possibly serve as deacons of TBC.

What to do? Pray about who God may place on your heart to nominate. Ask that individual if they would be willing to serve as a deacon should they be selected. Should God lead you to do so, nominate up to three men. You can nominate one, two or three. Don’t nominate anyone you have not talked with about serving.

What to consider? I am not sure anyone qualifies to serve as a pastor or deacon. We all need the LORD in our life to lead us and we don’t qualify on our own. However, there are qualities that need to be present in the life of those who serve in these positions. Scriptures would lead us to these qualities: serious purpose, honest in speech, temperate in living, steward of possessions, spiritual integrity, proven spiritual maturity, Christian family life.

Trinity deacons also feel strongly that they should: attend worship services, belong to a Bible study class, contribute faithfully to the finances of the church through stewardship, assume service with responsibility and support the ministers of the church.

Church members who may not be nominated are men currently serving as deacons and those who have not been a member of TBC for at least one year. A list of current deacons will be published. As you pray about this and the LORD places a name on your heart, ask them if they would be willing to serve before nominating them. We are hopeful and prayerful that we will have a list of potential deacons for church vote in February. At that time, each person presented will need to carry a two-thirds vote by the church to be selected.

We have incredible men who serve as Trinity deacons. They are a blessing to us in many ways that go undetected. Thank you, deacons. Thank you, Trinity.

Merry Christmas,

Genesis Class: A Transformative Bible Study Experience

by Dale Moreau

Are you ready to dive deeper into the Bible and truly understand its meaning? The Genesis Class is here to help you do just that! Whether you’re a teenager, young adult, husband, wife, or seasoned Bible reader, our class welcomes everyone eager to explore the Scriptures in a fresh and exciting way.

Unlike traditional Bible study classes, our approach goes beyond rote memorization or becoming a scholar in Greek and Hebrew. We emphasize understanding the meanings of the biblical languages in a practical way. You will learn to pose insightful questions, identify flawed interpretations, and seek comprehensive explanations that resonate on a deeper level.

Imagine reading a Bible verse you’ve memorized, like Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Have you ever wondered, what exactly is the gift of God? Is it grace, faith, or something else? Our class will guide you through questions like these, helping you uncover the true meaning behind the words.

We recently finished our study of the Book of Revelation and before that the Book of Genesis and are now excited to begin a new journey: What is the Gospel and What is Salvation? This study is unlike anything you’ve experienced before!

Join us in room 217, upstairs near the elevator, in the new building. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to grow in your understanding of the Bible and enrich your faith.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Children’s Ministry – December 2024

We’ve got a few new things going on this winter for parents and grandparents. The first is some new signage on our glass doors and walls. You’ll notice our Trinity Kids Core Value on our Trinity Kids Sign: “Created by God, Made for a Purpose.” You’ll also begin to see additional signs on the glass walls that expand our philosophy/core values.

The second is a new program we are beginning called D6 Family Discipleship. This will be a take home box for parents to help with Spiritual Conversations with their kids. These boxes will be available by the Kid’s Area in mid-November. Each box contains the following:
  • Meal Time Conversation Cards
  • Drive Time After School Conversation Starters
  • Bed Time Family Faith–Talk Starters

We are also adding for the month of December the Advent Flip Chart which can be used at another time or in place of the Conversation Cards. We want to help and support you as parents and grandparents as you disciple your kids.

Deut 6:6-7 “These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”

Prime Time Adult Ministries

by Don Francis

Prime Time adult ministries is typically geared toward our senior adults 55 and up but all are welcome.

Genesis 1 Hikers – This is a fun, physical, once a month activity in which we travel to a state park, cavern and other points of interest in our area. It is open to all ages depending on their abilities to maneuver rough terrain at times. We try to keep our hike on easy to moderate trails. We do not meet June through August because of the heat. May and September, we try to go to caves and caverns to avoid the sun and heat. It provides a great time to fellowship and enjoy God’s wonderful creation. April finds us at Inks State Park for the blooming bluebonnets and Lost Maples State Park in November for the leaf color change. We leave the church at 8:30am, returning around 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon. Most hikes we take a sack lunch, but if there is a fun restaurant nearby, we will stop for a “Dutch treat” lunch.

Prime Time Game Day – The excitement happens throughout the year on the first Monday of the month (holidays move to the second Monday). It is a great time of fun and fellowship. We start at noon with a sack lunch and gaming begins soon after. We have a great time playing Mexican Train, Rummikub and 42. We meet in the church Café and play until 3:00. Bring your favorite game and join us!

Prime Time Dinners – Our senior adults have activities throughout the year except June, July and August. We try to have a potluck every other month. They usually consist of a theme that is helpful and of special interest to senior adults. Sometimes we have special music or just a time of singing and giving praise to our Lord and Savior. Occasionally the church will provide the main course, and we bring a side dish or dessert. We have been known to have a Ray Stevens impersonator singing the Great Mississippi Squirrel Revival and our very own church quartet! Don’t miss our food, fun, and fellowship. ENCORE is a special two-day version of our Prime Time dinners which is held each May.

Meet our New Student Ministry Assistant

Hello! I’m Alycia Apostolides. I am the wife of John. We have been married for 34 years this month. John is a retired Lt. Colonel and serves as the commander of Tivy’s JROTC program. We have three grown daughters. Our oldest, Audra lives in Montana with her husband and two young children. Our middle daughter, Sophia, is an officer in the Air Force and is currently stationed in Japan. Our youngest daughter, Adahlyn, prefers to go by Lynie. She is working in manufacturing at James Avery. Her goal is to build houses for underprivileged families on mission around the world.

My husband and I started attending Trinity three months ago. We are blessed to be a part of the Bridge class on Sunday mornings, and usually attend the 11:00am service. We love it here and look forward to getting to know everyone better in the coming years. I am so happy to be a part of the ministerial assistance staff here at Trinity. I love helping people and learning new things.

In my spare time, I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, and working on whatever craft is interesting to me at the current time. My husband and I enjoy traveling so much that I plan trips for friends and family. After 34 years of moving all over the country with the Air Force, we are so happy to be able to call Kerrville home.

God has been so faithful to me over the course of my life. He has shown himself to be the most trustworthy and solid rock to stand on. My life verse is Galatians 2:20; “For I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me; the life that I now life in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Student Ministry – November 2024

by Melissa Morris

A busy refinery can be a noisy place. Hammering, grinding, sizzling, roaring fires, along with the shouting above all those noises, are some of the sounds of the work happening inside. The sounds at The Refinery, the youth space at Trinity, might be different, (though I would argue that the decibel level can be higher than an actual refinery!), but those sounds are also evidence of the important work happening inside.

In my role as High School Circles (small groups) Coordinator, I arrive early on Wednesday nights to help set up and I hear ping pong balls bouncing, foosball handles spinning, cheers, and a few friendly taunts as students start to arrive and play games before the main event starts. There are also huddled conversations, laughing, occasional tears, and shouts across the room as friends gather and catch up on life. Adult Circle Leaders also start showing up at this time, some leaving work early, to get a few extra minutes to build relationships with their students.

When everyone gathers in The Forge, what we call the big room, the sounds become those of worship, with adults and youth using their musical gifts in the band and students singing praise to the Lord. After a few songs and prayer, the sounds change dramatically to those of the Impossible Shot, where students and their visitors get to try to get a Nerf arrow through a tiny target across the room to win a prize. On the very rare occasion that someone makes it, the cheers are electric!

After that, the high schoolers split off into their small groups in classrooms while the middle schoolers stay in The Forge for teaching and discussion. I get to overhear solid Biblical teaching from Wes, Brian Bowers, and Stacie Foster that is tailored just for those preteen and young teenagers, along with their discussion and reflection on that message. I love hearing the students’ responses of how they interpret Scripture passages and what is going to stick with them. Meanwhile the high schoolers are diving into their curriculum and discussing that week’s lesson. There are occasional bursts of laughter along with periods of quiet when someone shares a struggle and their friends and leaders offer advice and prayer.

Wednesday night ends sounding much like it started with ping pong and foosball balls, a student leadership team huddle, and loud group conversations. There is a lot of activity and noise in The Refinery, but the most important thing that is heard each and every Wednesday night by every student is that God loves them and desires a relationship with them. The best sound of them all.

Night In Bethlehem 2024

by Carolyn Hollingsworth

For several years Trinity Baptist church has offered a “Drive thru Nativity” for the community. In the comfort of their vehicles, families drive thru scenes depicting angels, shepherds and sheep, inn keepers, wise men and the manger. It provides an opportunity to see, hear and experience what it may have been like that special night in Bethlehem when Jesus was born. What a delight it is to watch the excitement of children waiting to see baby Jesus and the sheep before they drive thru. It is our desire that you will begin the month of December remembering the birth of Jesus; God’s gift of love and forgiveness of sins for the world.

Come join us for “Night in Bethlehem” December 6th and 7th from 6:00-7:00pm. Vehicles enter from Bluebell Road and can have narration from either a phone or other device by accessing tbck.org.

Adult Discipleship – November 2024

Chris was our sons’ Bible study leader when they were in middle school. He marked their height on a church wall every year. Those lines are probably still there, twenty years later! That leads me to think about another type of growth. How do you measure spiritual growth? We don’t notch church door jambs with years of attendance or the verses we memorized.

Ken Braddy is approaching four decades of discipleship service to churches and denominational groups, training thousands of Bible study leaders during that time. Based on his experience, he has developed a more accurate measuring tool to gauge small group Bible study growth. Numbers represent people, but attendance alone is of limited value in evaluating spiritual growth. Stack your own life next to this spiritual maturity yardstick. Here are Braddy’s four measurements with my summary of his evaluation questions.

Learn and obey God’s word – Are the individuals in your small group growing as disciples, engaging in discussion? Is your group identifying and calling up apprentice leaders? As we grow numerically, do we periodically spin off new versions of the group?
Invite people to become disciples – Do our prayers focus on the lost…by name? Do we schedule intentional time among the lost, initiating “next steps” conversations? Are we intentionally inviting both saved and lost people to join the group?
Form deeper relationships – Are we organized to care for each other’s needs? How balanced is our connection and content? What are we doing to strengthen group relationships?
Engage in acts of service – How does our group make a difference in the local community? Do we encourage one another to serve in the church, and within our leadership team? In what ways do we encourage and pray for our pastor?

Christians don’t go from “milk to meat” in a day. However, there should be some observable traits, actions, and attitudes that we develop as we age in our faith. So, pull out your measuring tape with me and let’s grow!

New Life Class

by Greg Peschel

The New Life class has an open door for anyone looking for a Sunday morning Bible Study. We are currently going through a short study on the church and plan to take a look at Biblical Servant Leadership in our next study. Our study features plenty of discussion, a few laughs, and the occasional tear. As we continue to grow, we hope to add some outside-of-class gatherings to the social calendar. In the midst of our busy lives, we must be sure to take time for fellowship with other believers. We are currently looking for someone who has that passion for fellowship who might be interested in organizing that for our group. In the meantime, we enjoy the time we share together and look forward to spending time in study and prayer as a community.

Trinity Men’s Bible Study

by Rick Boles

The Fall Men’s Bible Study is alive and well, meeting Thursday’s from 10:00am to Noon in the Youth Department’s Refinery. The study is being taught by a diverse group of well-qualified teachers and Bible Study leaders starting with our own Adult Discipleship Minister, J.D Templeton, assisted by Greek Bible Scholar, Dale Moreau, and Bible Study teacher, Mike Mullens.

We are studying the book of Exodus this fall and this book is filled with the challenges of the early Hebrew people. It teaches us, as Men in today’s culture, what we need to be– a light in a dark time and, to those who are observing, how we as Christian men react to the challenges of our time.

If you have not been involved, we encourage you to come and join in our study of the Book of Exodus. You will get to know and have fellowship with men who see a need to study God’s Word as they lead in their families as a spouse, parent and grandparent. Again, we are having a great time studying God’s Word and praying for one another in the challenges of life.

Moses Family Update

by Wendy Anderson

Some of you may know Dr. Geoffrey and Nicole Moses from their stay in the Minoah House as they mobilized in 2018 for their first move and again in the summer of 2023, or from his work as a physician at Peterson Hospital in years past. The Moses’ sending church is Kerrville Bible. They serve through Frontiers USA Ministry.

Geoffrey and Nicole, along with their four beautiful kids, have served in Sierra Leone since 2019, sharing their skills in a country with one of the highest disease burdens in the world. Geoffrey’s father is originally from Sierra Leone, a war-torn majority Muslim nation in West Africa and again, according to National Geographic, one of the most difficult places on earth. The country has one of the lowest life expectancies and highest infant mortality rates in the world. Geoffrey’s training is in family medicine and Nicole’s in occupational therapy.

Their work includes providing countless medical services, hosting medical teams, educating and training, building relationships and the witness of the great commission of the reconciliation between God and mankind through Jesus Christ. They homeschool their children.

TBCK is honored to help in the support of the Moses family. Hopefully they’ll be able to utilize one of our mission homes again in the future, as they still consider Kerrville as their home.
